Home-Start Knowsley is a voluntary organisation offering support to local families who are facing difficulty and have at least one child under the age of eleven. They can offer an option of a home-visiting volunteer visiting weekly in addition to a member of staff.

They offer a variety of support:

  • Breastfeeding drop-ins across the borough and provide phone support for mums (with babies at 3-8 weeks)
  • A (very busy) Parent & Toddler Group
  • School Readiness Courses
  • Out & About (supports families with children with additional needs and/or disabilities)
  • Sunrise project (supports adults with low level mental ill-health)
  • Fit 4 Life Health & Wellbeing Courses
  • Time for Me Health & Wellbeing Course
  • Mindfulness
  • Holiday Allsorts Family Activity Days during school holidays.
  • Volunteer training

During the lockdown period, Home-Start Knowsley have continued to support families. This support has been provided through phone calls, texts, WhatsApp, Zoom, whatever was best for the family. Door-step visits of support have still been provided, following the social distancing guidelines.

Home-Start Knowsley have delivered emergency food parcels including store cupboard basics, fruit & veg boxes (via Knowsley Kitchen), toiletries & baby essentials, activity packs, multi-sensory baskets for kids with additional needs and/or disabilities, notelets and stamps (so people could write to each other), educational toys, skipping ropes, frizbees, hoola hoops, and anything else they could get their hands on! They have also provided families with slow cookers and weekly boxes of ingredients to cook healthy meals from scratch (as part of Knowsley Kitchen’s Friday Night Feast initiative).

Some of the groups and courses have had to be put on hold during this period but some have been continued via zoom such as: breastfeeding drop-ins, volunteer training course, aromatherapy, gentle yoga, virtual coffee mornings and much more!

Pam Bowes, Business Manager, Home-Start Knowsley said: “It has been difficult during these circumstances but we are confident we have still supported families who needed our help”.
