Knowsley is set to become a focus of heritage themed activities and events thanks to One Knowsley receiving a National Lottery Heritage Fund award to facilitate a micro-grants scheme in the Borough. The National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded One Knowsley funding to facilitate a micro-grant scheme totaling £100,000 over the next two years, called Knowsley Heritage Grants.
The Knowsley Heritage Grants project, which launches on 23rd June, will provide micro-grants of between £250-£3000 to social sector organisations in Knowsley. The grants will be available for organisations to design and deliver heritage-themed activities, building capacity and confidence around heritage in the Borough and lead to organisations making direct applications for funding to Heritage Fund in the future.
One Knowsley is an independent body that provides the expertise and support to help voluntary, community, faith and not-for-profit (Social Sector) to start, grow, build resilience, establish enterprise and have a visible and valued role within the borough.
One Knowsley works with the Knowsley community: those who live, work, and invest in the borough, and want to do good for Knowsley residents by building strong communities.
Knowsley is a Borough rich in built and natural heritage and the Knowsley Heritage Grants project will work with social sector organisations to define what heritage means to them, and design creative and exciting activities that will be available for residents of the Borough to enjoy.
A Heritage Engagement Officer, Liz Mann, has been recruited by One Knowsley to provide support to groups who would like to apply for a Knowsley Heritage Grant. They can help design your activities and explain more about the grant application process and can be contacted for an informal conversation about the project. One Knowsley will shortly deliver a series of workshops for the sector to launch the Knowsley Heritage Grants project.
Racheal Jones, Chief Executive Officer at One Knowsley, said:
“One Knowsley would like to thank National Lottery players for this opportunity and hope they can participate in the various activities and events that will take place in Knowsley thanks to the Knowsley Heritage Grants project. This is a particularly exciting time as the project will run into 2022 when Knowsley is Borough of Culture and it is hoped these opportunities can raise the profile of Knowsley’s heritage and the unique stories Knowsley residents have to share.”
Cllr Morgan, Leader at Knowsley Council, said: “I’m delighted that One Knowsley has successfully secured this funding for the benefit of our Borough. Knowsley is steeped in history with an array of listed buildings, conservation areas and designed heritage assets. I look forward to seeing how our communities join in with the Knowsley Heritage Grants Project, celebrating and sharing our rich heritage.”
